Sanas raises $65M Series B

Sanas is on a mission to improve human communication, understanding and empathy through the use of AI. Its initial and primary product enables a non-native English speaker to soften or even fully eliminate their accent in real time communications, with no measurable latency. This lack of latency for real time communication is a massive technical challenge that no one else has solved, requiring being able to modulate speech without any cloud interaction (so true EdgeAI processing), without converting out of speech into text, doing so on local machines with little or even no GPU capacity, and being able to detect and to react to real time changes to both computer resource availability and physical environment.

Improving human communication, understanding and empathy is far more than just accent reduction. Sanas’s product line extensions already can completely remove background noise in real time better than any of the legacy solutions. They can add inflection for non-native speakers. They can slow down speech in real time for nervous conversationalists and break out slurred or conjoined words. There are many other advanced features being developed in the Sanas AI labs, all for improving human communication, understanding and empathy.

As the leader, by far, in this emerging field of human communication, Sanas has managed to win as customers almost every one of the top 20 business outsourcing firms in the world and in one year has grown the number of people using its software 80-fold and its revenue over 8x for the second year in a row.

DN Capital partner Steven Schlenker mentored the founders of Sanas (CEO Maxim Serebryakov, CTO Shawn Zhang, and Jose Ignacio Andres Perez, in their entrepreneurship class at Stanford back in 2020 where Sanas was ideated and turned from a concept to a viable potential business. He then arranged for DN to write the first angel check and introduced 3 of the 5 other initial investors from DN’s proprietary network, each of whom had experiences either in communications start-ups, digital signal processing, or globalisation of start-ups. DN Capital has participated in every round to this point and in guiding key elements of the strategy and vision of Sanas.

This latest round values Sanas at roughly $500 million, the [20th] DN portfolio company to achieve this level. The Sanas executive leadership team, which also includes co-founder/COOSharath Keshava Narayana, intend to use this round’s capital (a) in the short term, to expand the number of accent “corridors” Sanas’s models cover while passing the million live user mark, (b) in the medium term, to expand customer geographical coverage, and (c) in the longer term, to expand industry footprint, with an ultimate vision of helping every conversation, in every environment achieve improved understanding.
